Matera Italy and the Women’s Writers Festival

I recently crossed off a Bucket List item with a trip to Italy. It began in Florence, then to Rome, Matera and Bari. The catalyst to the trip was the Women's Writers Festival. It's hosted in Matera, an ancient town where The Passion of the Christ was filmed and, according to our taxi driver, the upcoming Ben Hur remake. You can see why. If it weren't for the cars and the contemporary clothing of the pedestrians, you could believe you'd traveled back in time.

On our way to the conference. Steep hills, lots of steps. Good exercise!
