Author Tip Tuesday – Goodreads Cracked

It's been a while since I've posted Author Tip Tuesday.

Let's talk about Goodreads.

If you're an active reader you probably love Goodreads. It's a great place to engage with other readers, keep track of the books you read, leave reviews and find new books in the genre you love to read.

If you're an author, you probably have a love/hate relationship with Goodreads. The dashboard is restrictive and you need a hard-to-reach librarian to help you make meta data changes, and sometimes they just won't let you do what you can easily do on Amazon, like cover changes or author name changes. I rebranded my contemporary romances to inspirational romances. This required giving the series a new name, and attaching a pen name. The only place this was a problem? You guessed it. Goodreads. I had to set up a new author dashboard, which made sense, but they won't remove the old, now defunct version from my Lee Strauss dashboard.

Goodreads also has a bad rep for leaving especially nasty reviews, and there have been a couple unfortunate instances where a distraught author engaged in a verbal war dance with a reviewer, and it wasn't pretty.

A lot of authors I know drop their new titles into Goodreads because they know that's where readers hang out, and step far, far away. I was one of those authors. Not anymore.

I recently completed a short online course by author Alinka Rutkowska called GOODREADS CRACKED. She outlays brilliant ways to engage with readers who like the kinds of books you write and how to get them to leave a review.

If you know me, you know I'm not one to pitched stuff to buy ( except, of course, my own books!)

But I got so much value from Goodreads Cracked, and my assistant agrees, that I have to share it. The unbelievable thing is it's only 19.99. Trust me, you'll be glad you invested 20 bucks into your business. The safety net's there. If you don't like the course, you can return it in the first 30 days and get your money back.

Disclaimer: I get a kickback on each sale, but I offered to share the course with my network before I knew about the affiliate opportunity.
